• привет!

The Shawnee Slavic (Russian) Cultural Club is a cultural organization devoted to celebrating all things Slavic, including Russian!  Club members will have an opportunity to enrich their knowledge of Slavic Culture as we explore the arts, sample food, play games, talk about history and pop culture, and maybe even learn a little Russian or other Slavic words and phrases along the way!

So what does it mean to be Slavic?  According to Encyclopedia Britannica, "Slavs are members of the most numerous ethnic and linguistic body of peoples in Europe, residing chiefly in eastern and southeastern Europe but extending also across northern Asia to the Pacific Ocean. Slavic languages belong to the Indo-European family. Customarily, Slavs are subdivided into East Slavs (chiefly Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians), West Slavs (chiefly Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, and Wends, or Sorbs), and South Slavs (chiefly Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes, Macedonians, and Montenegrins). Bulgarians, though of mixed origin like the Hungarians, speak a Slavic language and are often designated as South Slavs."

You do not need to be Russian,of Slavic descent or speak a slavic language to join the club, but you do have to have an interest in Slavic culture, history or language. All are welcome! This is a student-driven organization, so bring your ideas about things you would like to do each month. Meetings will be held once a month or more often, depending on interest.
