Setup & Password Recovery Guide for Staff
Microsoft Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
1. Enrollment Status
Most LRHSD staff members are automatically enrolled in SSPR when they complete Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) registration. If you have already set up MFA and verified your security information, no additional action is required.
You will be asked to verify your current authentication methods to proceed. You may occasionally see a prompt to review or update your security information when signing into Microsoft services. If that happens, verify your details or update anything that has changed. If you are a new employee or have not yet completed MFA setup, follow the steps below.
2. Initial Setup
Follow these steps to configure your account recovery options:
Step 1: Open the Security Portal: Microsoft My Sign-Ins
Step 2: Sign-In: Use your full LRHSD work email address and current password.
Step 3: Add Recovery Methods: Click Add sign-in method or Set up. Configure at least two recovery methods from the options below:
- Mobile App Notification: Select “Microsoft Authenticator app” or another authenticator app. You will receive a push notification to approve when resetting your password.
- Mobile App Code: Select “Microsoft Authenticator app” and choose the verification code option. You will enter the 6-digit code shown in the app.
- Email: Select “Email” and enter a personal email address (Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.). Do not use your school email address.
- Mobile Phone: Select “Phone,” enter your mobile number, and choose text message or voice call.
Step 4: Verify Each Method: Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm each method you add (e.g., enter the code sent to your phone or approve the app notification).
⚠️ Important: Email Recovery Address
If you use email as a recovery method, it MUST be a personal account (Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.). Do not enter your LRHSD work email address here. If you are locked out and your only recovery option is your work account, you will not be able to recover access on your own.
3. Resetting Your Password
If you forget your password or get locked out, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the Reset Portal: Navigate to Microsoft Online Password Reset. You can also go to Microsoft Account, click Sign-in, enter your work email, and select Forgot my password.
Step 2: Enter Your Email & CAPTCHA: Type your full work email address and complete the CAPTCHA.
Step 3: Verify Your Identity: Select a recovery method (app notification, app code, email, or text/call) based on what you enrolled. Follow the prompts to verify.
Step 4: Create a New Password: Enter a new password that meets the organization’s requirements (minimum length, numbers, and uppercase letters). Type it a second time to confirm.
Step 5: Done: Click Reset password. Your new password will work immediately across all Microsoft services (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.).
4. Troubleshooting
Wrong account: Make sure you are signing in with your LRHSD work email. Personal Microsoft accounts (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com) will not work.
Browser issues: If you run into loading errors or redirect loops, open a Private or Incognito window (Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows, Cmd+Shift+N on Mac) and try again.
Outdated contact info: If your phone number or personal email address changes, update it in your security profile before you get locked out, not after.
