Not Even Once - Cherokee

There were 141 documented fatal overdoses in Burlington County in 2017, 11 of which were in Evesham Township, with the youngest fatality being 15 years-old.  In 2018 Evesham alone has had 47 reported overdoses, 5 of which resulted in fatality.

In response to the growing opioid epidemic in New Jersey, Cherokee High School - in conjunction with the Evesham Township Police Department - has implemented an interactive high school opioid awareness program titled #NotEvenOnce. This program is instructed by Evesham Township Police Officers and is a collaborative effort between law enforcement and educators with the goal of informing students about the dangers of opioids before they leave for college or enter the workforce. 

The program coincides with the Common Core Standards of New Jersey (N.J.S.A. 18A-40A-1) for health classes and will be taught to students during their senior year of high school over the course of four class periods.

As part of the program, students will watch Not Even Once - The Max Huffnagle Story.  This moving piece tells the tragic story of 2010 Cherokee High School graduate and Evesham resident Maxwell Huffnagle and his battle with drug addiction.
