BOE Student Representative Monthly Report

Lenape High School

Every Tuesday in the North Cafeteria, excitement, unity, and competition is created between the students with a themed trivia contest. Winners are given candy and other small rewards. This is a staff-run activity and promotes student bonding and keeping the school-day exciting without disturbing class time.

The Powder Puff game was held on November 4th, where the juniors won in a close championship game against the Seniors. Each year, a flag-football competition between grades is played in the fall. All-girl teams are coached by members of the football team, and the grades compete in a fun and unofficial manner for recognition. This is organized by the Student Council with tickets sold both in school and at the door for parents. A large crowd gathers each year to cheer on each grade.

On October 17th, students came to school dressed in the assigned color of their grade and were given the day to participate in activities on the open campus. This Student Council-run event gives clubs and organizations the opportunity to run fundraisers through bake sales, games, and various other methods. It also promotes student morale and solidarity, especially with the excitement of the Pep Rally where the different grades compete in games like Tug-of-War for the recognition of the "Spirit Stick." This year, the seniors won.

Cherokee High School

Prior to the Homecoming Dance, the entire school gathered in the bowl to celebrate Cherokee’s fall sports. This included hilarious skits from the junior and senior class, as well as fun activities from our varsity fall sports athletes and faculty members.

Over 1,300 Cherokee students shared an enjoyable evening at their Homecoming Dance in the North Gymnasium and outdoor courtyard. The energy was electric as our freshmen to seniors danced the night away.

Cherokee opened their doors and filled their halls with potential incoming freshmen from the Class of 2030. The event began with a well-prepared and executed presentation that included student representatives and a school video created by our Cherokee Digital Media crew. Cherokee's Peer Leaders then assisted in guiding students and their parents to stations around the school, showcasing our classes, extracurriculars, and more.

Shawnee High School

At Shawnee this month, two guest flight instructors came in during Lunch and Learn from Beyond Aviation, a local flight school at South Jersey Regional Airport. They talked to the Aeronautics Club about becoming a pilot, the training that goes into it, career opportunities, and many other things were also discussed.

Shawnee had their Homecoming Dance on October 24th. The Student Council organized a Hawaiian theme and had the Mr. Softee truck and a DJ there. They had a great turnout with lots of students showing up for food, music, and dancing.

Veterans came in on November 5th to talk about their past and experiences involving the military. The Yellow Ribbon Club held a flag ceremony out front with guest appearances from our own LRHSD Board of Education.  A Mission BBQ lunch was provided by the generosity of the Shawnee Football Team.

Seneca High School

Seneca’s Pep Rally turned out great thanks to participation from all grades. The seniors ended up winning the Pep Rally games and skit. Their Homecoming, which followed the Pep Rally, was a “Hollywood Hoco” theme. The Student Council received lots of positive feedback compared to recent years in regards to the DJ, decorations and overall enjoyment of the night.

Seneca students collected and bagged different assortments of food and held their annual food drive outside of Murphy's Market in Tabernacle on November 15th from 10am to 1pm.

Seneca’s Fall Blood Drive is in full swing. They are encouraging those eligible (students who are at least 16 years old and any teachers) to sign up. This will be held on November 20th, and they are hoping to surpass last year's record-breaking attendance of more than 50 donations.

Shawnee High School's STEM Community Outreach

Shawnee High School Principal Mr. Matthew Campbell and Technology Teacher Ms. Stefani Kirk introduced juniors Jackson Hrobak and Eliza Wargo and Class of 2024 alum Meredith Bandomer to the Board of Education. Jackson, Eliza and Meredith then gave a presentation about Shawnee's Technology program and the community service events that they conduct, including STEM Night and Shawnee STEM Day at Nokomis Elementary School. Shawnee's STEM program also does various outreach programs throughout the school year, such as Take Your Child to Work Day, Girl Scout events, Cub Scouts events, STEM workshops for middle schoolers, summer programs and professional development for local school districts.
