Lenape District Names Matthew Webb as
Next Superintendent

Shamong, N.J. – Lenape Regional High School District (LRHSD) has named current Assistant Superintendent Matt Webb as the district’s next superintendent to succeed Carol Birnbohm, Ed.D., who retires effective Sept. 1. Webb received unanimous support from the LRHSD Board of Education, which approved his appointment during its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 23.
A longtime LRHSD employee, Webb joined the district in 2003 as assistant principal of Seneca High School. He has since built a reputation for leading with both his heart and mind. Webb garnered many letters of recommendation supporting his promotion from colleagues and families who described him as a connected and highly compassionate leader.
“Matt brings invaluable institutional knowledge to the table,” noted Birnbohm. “In a district as complex as ours, which includes four high schools, eight municipalities and a thousand employees, this level of experience is essential. Relationships built over decades have given him what I would describe as ‘trust equity.’ It’s the kind of credibility and connection that cannot be quickly replicated.”
Webb began his 32-year career as a special education teacher before transitioning into administration at Seneca. He spent the past 22 years in various administrative roles, including as director of the Sequoia Alternative Program. Here, he made community service a central focus of the program and has since found motivation in the notion: It’s hard to feel down on yourself when you’re helping someone else up.
“This philosophy speaks to the heart of Matt’s leadership style – one rooted in service, humility and care,” added Birnbohm.
Webb initially moved into district offices as director of programs and planning. As his responsibilities grew to include oversight of district-wide initiatives, he earned a promotion to become assistant superintendent.
Serving LRHSD as assistant superintendent since 2018, Webb led the daily operations of all four district high schools and Sequoia. He oversaw some of the most complex committees, including artificial intelligence and Covid-19, drawing upon his strengths as a thoughtful leader who can look ahead without overlooking his priority – the people throughout LRHSD.
Webb also headed the Budget Committee and led district-wide Policy and Regulation development. Furthermore, he served as the district Affirmative Action Officer and Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Coordinator, committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable school community throughout LRHSD.
“We are very excited to have Matt succeed Carol as LRHSD superintendent,” stated LRHSD Board President Charles Roseboro. “He has a long track record of success within the district and has garnered the support of leaders throughout the organization, which will help ensure the district remains on its trajectory of continued excellence.”
Webb said as superintendent, he will continue a leadership style grounded in “collaboration, transparent communication and data-informed decision-making – all in service of supporting student success.”
He added, “I’ve had the privilege of learning from exceptional leaders, including Dr. Birnbohm, and I consider it the highest professional honor to build upon her legacy.”
