BOE Student Representative Monthly Report
Lenape High School
Lenape held their first reindeer games since 2019! Reindeer games is a pep rally with holiday themed games played by the representatives of each grade. Also during the holidays, Lenape’s Hero Club, National Honor Society, and Gender and Sexuality Alliance were collecting toys and other necessities to give back to local families in need. Lenape’s Student Council will be attending the NJASC winter conference and are all excited for this learning experience. In athletics, the girls and boys basketball are having a successful start to their seasons.
Shawnee High School
Recently, the Shawnee DECA Chapter took tests to qualify for states. The Renegades girls basketball team is off to a really strong start with an 8-4 record. The freshmen and sophomore classes are preparing for their snowball dances, which will be held at the end of this month. Finally, the Shawnee Unified Basketball season is starting strong, and everyone on the team is super excited and cannot wait for their games.
Cherokee High School
With the New Year, Cherokee clubs and athletics have been starting off strong. The Lady Chiefs Winter Track 4x8 team is now 2nd in New Jersey, 17th in the nation, and recently competed at Liberty University. All other winter sports have had successful starts to their seasons as well. DECA has begun the first round of competitions where students are given a hypothetical product and are challenged to convince local investors to take a chance on them.
Seneca High School
Seneca hosted the Lenape District Wrestling quad this year. It was such an intense battle between all four schools. Seneca ended up taking home the victory, beating the other three schools for the second year in a row. Our unified basketball team is also off to a great start with a 2-0 record. The Class of 2024 student government is honoring Charlie Bates, a classmate who passed away over the holidays, by making a remembrance board in our class display case. The display case will contain things that Charlie loved, like the Phillies and the outdoors.
Cherokee Heros
The Board of Education honored Cherokee Athletic Director Scott Agnew, Cherokee athletic trainer Karen Hengst, and Cherokee alum and parent Jill Evans. At a recent basketball game, a fan in attendance went into cardiac arrest. Their ability to quickly respond and initiate immediate emergency care aided in the victim regaining consciousness.
