• Beyond Balance Horse Program

Beyond Balance is a volunteer-based not for profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives and experiences of individuals with disabilities through equine activities. The partnership between the Sequoia Alternative Program and Beyond Balance offers our students the opportunity to develop skills that can't be acquired in a traditional classroom.  During the 10 week program our students assist with barn, horse, and field maintenance - while learning about therapeutic riding and how it can help people with special needs.

They also learn the importance and rewards associated with volunteering to help others.  Students scheduled for this course will earn 2.5 credits towards graduation and have the ability to earn 20 or more volunteer hours; an asset to include on resumes, transcripts and applications.

Here is just a few examples of the work our students perform while at the farm:

    • Maintaining the shed and barn where the therapy horses live

    • Moving hay

    • Cleaning water buckets

    • Spending time and interacting with the horses (i.e. grooming)

This is a fun and exciting program and we find many students ask to volunteer even after the 10 week program is finished.
