Problem Instructions for
Transactions Dated December 1-10
If you need assistance in completing any of the steps to this problem, refer to the appropriate chapters of your Automated Accounting 8.0, Windows Version textbook. However, the extensive on-line Help system is available at all times. To access the Help system, pull down the Help menu and choose the Contents option. You may also key Alt-H. |
NOTE: A problem
Help file is available for this simulation. Once your data file is loaded and
saved, click the Browser button on your toolbar. The problem Help instructions
will be displayed in your computer’s default Internet browser (you do not
need to be online to display these instructions). These problem instructions
are used throughout the simulation. For ease of reference as you complete the
simulation, you may wish to minimize the browser. Then as you are ready to
complete each new step you can quickly restore the instructions by clicking on
the browser name at the bottom of your screen without needing to reload the
browser and instructions.
Step 1 |
Bring up the Automated Accounting system. |
Step 2 |
Click the Open toolbar button. Select the data file UNIQUE from the appropriate directory/folder. Key your name in the User Name field. |
Step 3 |
Select File from the menu bar and choose the Save As menu command. Key the path to the drive and directory that contains your data files. Save the your file with a file name of Unique XXX XXX (where the X's are your first and last names). |
Step 4 |
Click the Journal toolbar button. Key and post the transactions for December 1 and the FIRST transaction for December 2 into the appropriate journals. |
Step 5 |
Select the Reports toolbar button. Set the run date to December 2 of the current year. |
Step 6 |
Click the Other toolbar button. Select the Reconciliation tab. Perform the bank reconciliation using the information given in the Computer Instructions and Instruction Sheets booklet. Click the Report toolbar button to print or display the completed bank reconciliation. |
Step 7 |
Click the Journal toolbar button. Key the rest of the transactions for December 2, and all the transactions for December 3-10. |

Select the Reports toolbar button. Select Journals from the Select a Report Group list and General Journal from the Choose a Report to Display list. Choose the Customize Journal Report option. Set the Start Date to 12/01/-- and the End Date to 12/10/--. Display or print a general journal report. Repeat the procedures for each journal. Before exiting each journal report, answer questions 1-5 on the Audit Report for December 1-10. |

Select Financial Statements from the Select a Report Group list and Income Statement from the Choose a Report to Display list. Display or print an income statement. Before exiting the income statement, answer questions 5-10 on the Audit Report for December 31. Then choose Retained Earnings Statement from the Choose a Report to Display list. Display or print the retained earnings statement. Before exiting the retained earnings statement, answer question 11 on the Audit Report for December 31. Then choose Balance Sheet from the Choose a Report to Display list. Display or print the balance sheet. Before exiting the balance sheet, answer questions 12-15 on the Audit Report for December 31. |

Click the Graphs toolbar button. Click the Income Statement button in the Graph Selection window. Display or print the income statement graph. Follow the same procedure to diplay or print a balance sheet graph. |

folder/directory that contains your data files. Save the problem with a file

Pull down the Options menu and select the Generate Closing Journal Entries menu command. Click the Yes button to verify you want to generate the closing journal entries. After reviewing the closing entries, click Post. |
Step 9 |
Click the Reports toolbar button. Select Ledger Reports from the Select Report Group list and choose Trial Balance from the Choose a Report to Display list. Display or print the post-closing trial balance. Your trial balance should match the 12/31/-- post-closing trial balance printed in your computer instructions booklet. Before exiting the post-closing trial balance, answer questions 16-20 on the Audit Report for December 31. |
Step 10 |
Click the Save As toolbar button. Select the drive and directory that contains your data files. Save the problem with a file name of Unique AC XXX XXX (where the X's are your first and last names). This file represents UNIQUE after closing. |

Click the Exit toolbar button to end the session. |
