• Independent Reading Log Overview

    • At least 2 times a week, for homework, read for a minimum of 20 minutes.
    • When you are done reading you will need to write a response.
    • Use the Response Starters below to guide your writing.
    • You need, at a minimum, 2 entries each week
    • Throughout the year, use a variety of Response Starters. The responses each week can not be the same. (You cannot use “After today’s reading, I predict that . . .” and “After today’s reading, I predict that . . .” in the same week). You must have variety.
    • Responses should thoroughly express your ideas about and understanding of the book you are reading.
    • Your Independent Reading Log will be used toward your homework grade EACH marking period.
    • Your notebooks will be due on a specified date at the end of each marking period.
    • Responses will be graded based on spelling, grammar, completeness of response, proper number of responses, and thoroughness.
    • You must always have an independent reading book with you. Once you are finished with one book, select another. Try and explore a variety of genres.
    • Responses MUST be legible.
