Devin

Lenape High School, Class of 2023

Activities: I am active in Class Office as the 2023 Class President, through which I am involved in strategic planning, fund allocation, activity management, and various committees. I am a member of DECA, through which I compete in the Accounting Applications event, and have placed 1st consecutive years at the district competition. I have captained the Knowledge Bowl team, which competes in Jeopardy-style trivia tournaments, since sophomore year. I also participate in winter and spring track and field, in which I have competed at the varsity level each year and currently serve as a team captain.

Honors/Awards: I have received the Union League Legacy Foundation Good Citizen Award, I am a National Merit Commended Scholar, I was selected for the National African American and National Hispanic Recognition programs, and I was nominated for the Gordon A. Vreeland "Best Statesman" award at the American Legion Jersey Boys State Program. At Lenape, I have been selected as Student of the Month and I have received three Pop Star Awards.

Community Service: As co-founder and board trustee of Giving Cycle, an organization focused on experiential philanthropy for middle school students, I lead our team’s efforts on fundraising, grantmaking, identifying new groups of students to impact, and building organizational partnerships. We have distributed roughly $22,600 since its inception and reached nearly 1500 young people. I am also active at Ferry Avenue United Methodist Church, where, as lead AV engineer, I am responsible for ensuring the seamless function of all sound equipment in the sanctuary and the accompanying visuals for our worship every Sunday. Through the National Honor Society, I have been very involved in service events such as: raking leaves at a local senior community, wrapping Christmas gifts for underprivileged children, and tutoring fellow students.

Post-Secondary Education: University of Southern California

Major: Systems Engineering

Career Aspirations: I hope to first gain direct industry experience and further develop business proficiency through engaging in internship positions at established engineering companies and consulting firms while I am in college. After completion of my undergraduate studies, I aspire to further my professional education through an MSE and an MBA. My end goal is to launch my own practice, either in the field of engineering or the realm of consulting.

“Lenape has made various enrichment opportunities accessible to me, such as attending the New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology. This program, through which I was able to present and publish research at the 2022 IEEE MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference, gave me invaluable practical experience in novel research, and prepared me for success in college and beyond."
