The Governor is leaving what constitutes excessive heat up to each school district leader, most likely due to the fact that all school buildings are different throughout our state. As you know, our schools are not fully air-conditioned and since windows need to be closed and locked each evening, our schools do not have time to cool to comfortable temperatures this time of year. In addition, we have a large percentage of in-person learners, all carrying heat-generating Chromebooks which adds to the learning environment. Given these conditions, for the remainder of this school year, masks will be optional.
This change is being made for the health and safety of our students and staff, and under the evolving direction we receive each day. We ask that you continue to monitor your child/children for any symptoms and we encourage anyone unvaccinated to wear a mask.
