5-28-20 2020 Graduation Update

  • Dear LRHSD Community:

The Governor's announcement Tuesday confirms that the Lenape Regional High School District will be able to seek approval to recognize the Class of 2020 on Thursday, July 16, during an in-person graduation ceremony. The guidance we received from the New Jersey Department of Education on Wednesday evening provides information district officials must consider in order to ensure a memorable and safe event, including but not limited to social distancing, wearing PPEs and capping the number of guests per graduate.  We are in the process now of reviewing those guidelines and reaching out to local officials to assist us in the planning process. Their assistance will be instrumental in helping our district gain final approval.

We should be able to adhere to the recommendations of the New Jersey Department of Education while maintaining our district's commencement traditions, as well as each high school's distinctive touches that recognizes every LRHSD graduate for this tremendous accomplishment. That being said, we are weeks away from sharing any specific details because all plans are subject to change, as new guidance and fewer restrictions are introduced almost daily by the Governor.

The desired in-person graduation now makes the June 16th Diploma to Door program obsolete. If any graduate needs their actual diploma due to military or other early commitments, please reach out to your building principal.

I thoroughly enjoyed talking to many members of the Class of 2020 these past couple of weeks from each of our four high schools. Parents, please congratulate yourselves on raising such optimistic, caring and compassionate teenagers. We are thrilled at the strong possibility of celebrating their graduation with them on their field, rather than on a computer screen.

    Congratulations, Class of 2020!
