I will be a freshman in September, when and how do I register for a fall sport?
In early summer on or after JULY 26TH, we will open our fall registration portal.  All student athletes must be registered in advance for each sport which they want to play.  These registrations will be made through your parent portal of Genesis, our student information system, under your "forms" tab.  Through that portal, you as the parent, will choose the sport which your child wants to play, and you will be required to enter contact and emergency information, student health information, as well as health insurance and health provider information.  You will also be required to view and acknowledge that you have read and understand the terms and conditions of various items.  Please note, we open our sports registrations on a seasonal basis, so you will have to re-register your child for each sport season (fall, winter, spring) depending on the sport.

Is there a fee to play sports?
Yes, the Lenape Regional High School District assesses an extra-curricular participation fee for all sports/activities which require a board of education paid coach or advisor.  The current participation fee for the 2021-2022 school year is currently $200.00 per student.  This is a one-time fee which covers participation in unlimited sports and activities for the entire school year.  Students CANNOT try out or join a team until this fee has been paid.  Participation fees are waived for students who receive free/reduced lunch.  Hardship waivers are also available.  Participation fees are also submitted through School Cash Online, beginning August 1st to accept payments for the upcoming school year.  Your child will not be able to participate until the fee is paid.  Click here to access the SchoolFundsOnline electronic payment system.

What happens to the participation fee if my child does not make the team?
The participation fee is non-refundable unless the student is cut from the athletic/activity roster and did not participate in any other athletic/extracurricular activities for the remainder of the school year. A refund request form must be completed and submitted by June of that year or the fee will be forfeited.  Forms are available in the high school athletics office.  Refunds will be issued over the summer, after all of the student's obligations have been fulfilled. Any outstanding student obligations will be deducted from the refund at that time. Students who voluntarily drop out of an activity will forfeit their fee.

Payment of the Athletic and Extracurricular Activity Participation Fee does not guarantee position, role, or playing time. It does not guarantee the student or his/her parent, guardian or family control over any conditions, guidelines or policies regarding the team or activities.

Are annual physicals required to play a sport?
Yes.  All student athletes must submit either proof of a yearly physical exam, or a health history update, prior to the start of the playing season.  Physical exams are valid for one year only.  Please read below for assistance in determining which form you will need to submit:

If your child's last exam is dated more than 365 days from the first day of practice for the sport which he or she wishes to play, then your child will need to have an updated physical exam and have the following form completed by his or her physician.**  Please click the link below to access the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form.  The link will open to a third party website.
If your child has a valid yearly exam on file, but the exam is dated more than 90 days from the first day of practice for the sport which he or she wishes to play, then you (as the parent/guardian,) must complete the Health History Update questionnare.  Please click the link below to access the Health History Update Questionnaire.  The link will open to a third party website.

Where do I drop off my child’s physical paperwork?
All physical paperwork should be dropped off in the main office of Shawnee High School.  There is a bin marked “trainer,” and the paperwork should be left in that bin.  There is a clipboard located next to the bin, and we ask that the person who drops off the paperwork signs and dates the page on the clipboard.

When should I submit my child’s physical paperwork?

Please submit your child’s physical paperwork AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and no later than one week prior to the start of the particular sport season (fall, winter, spring).  Once received, physicals are reviewed and approved by the school’s Athletic Trainer as well as the Shawnee school physician.  Athletes are not automatically cleared to play the same day which their physical is received.  Please keep this in mind, and please do your best to provide us your child’s physical paperwork well in advance of the season’s first practice.  Students with expired forms, or forms which have been received but not yet approved by the school physician, will not be permitted to try out, practice, or play……no exceptions.

I dropped off my child’s physical this morning, why is my child being told that he/she cannot practice or participate today?
As stated above, when a physical is dropped off, it must first be reviewed by our Athletic Trainer.  If everything is in order, including required information and appropriate signatures, the physical is then forwarded to the school physician for review and approval.  Once the paperwork is returned to the Athletic Trainer’s office, the student athlete is then cleared to play, and the coach is notified.  Throughout the school year, and especially during the weeks just prior to the start of each sport season, we can receive hundreds of physicals on any given day.  As much as we try to process the paperwork as quickly as possible, you can expect a delay of a few days.  To avoid this from happening to your child, please submit their updated paperwork AS SOON AS POSSIBLE – please do not wait until the first day of practices!  The earlier we receive your child’s paperwork, the better!

    Do coaches make cuts?
Sometimes, depending upon the number of students trying out for a team, cuts will be necessary.  Teams that historically do not make cuts to their program include football, boys/girls cross country, wrestling, boys/girls bowling, boys/girls winter and spring track.

How can I contact a coach?
A complete listing of our sports programs, coach names and contact email address can be found here at: www.lrhsd.org/shawneecoaches.  Email is the best method of communication as most of our coaching staff teach during the day and are unable to speak on the phone during class time.

If my child does not make a team, can they participate in another sport?
Yes, if your child has tried out for a team and was cut, they can contact another coach and make arrangements to try out (if applicable,) or to simply join the new team if try-outs are not required.

How do I find out about team informational meetings?
Many coaches use social media (Twitter, Facebook, Team Websites,) to publish this information.  The Shawnee Athletics Department also manages a Twitter feed, and for students already in the building, meetings are announced during the school day.  You can also email the coach directly and ask them to share the parent information – they will be more than happy to add you to their contact lists!

Where do I find my child’s team schedule and the most up to date information in case of weather or schedule changes?
You can find a daily listing of our sports events, start times, and location (home/away) on our website at www.lrhsd.org/shawneegames.  You can also check out our Twitter account at https://twitter.com/SHSRenegades

Do I have to purchase a team uniform?
No, Shawnee High School provides uniforms for our athletes.  However, a coach may require that a certain style or color of sneaker be purchased.

Does the Athletics Office sell Shawnee logo clothing?
No, the Athletics office does not sell clothing with the Shawnee logo.  However, the Shawnee school store supplies many different “Shawnee” items; sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, scarves, jackets, hats, socks and bags if you or your son/daughter would like to purchase and wear Shawnee gear!  Many of our sports teams also run fundraisers and sell clothing items throughout the year.

What if my son/daughter loses their uniform?
Athletes are responsible for the care and upkeep of uniforms during the season.  We expect uniforms to be returned clean and without damage.  If a student loses a uniform, there will be a charge assessed to the student account at the current cost of replacement.

Who do I contact with any other questions?
Please contact the Shawnee High School Athletics Office at 609-654-7544, extension 440400, and speak with the Athletics Secretary, Ms. Doris Baratti.
