Staff Acceptable Use Policy for Computer and Network Use BOE Policy The Access to network services is provided to users who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner. Access is a privilege, not a right. Access entails responsibility. It is understood that anyone using this Internet network has agreed to abide by this Acceptable Use Policy. Individual users of the district computer networks are responsible for their behavior and communications over those networks. Student users will comply with District Board Policy #5600 (Expectations for Student Behavior) and Board Policy #5500 (Pupil Conduct). Network storage areas may be treated like school lockers. Network administrators may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and insure that users are using the system responsibly. Users should not expect that any system content, or content on equipment used to connect to the district’s system, will be private. System technicians and administrators and designated school personnel may, at any time and without notice, review content stored on the district’s system. This includes the right to review content sent by, to or through the system, as well as content stored on any equipment not owned by the district that is connected to the system in any manner, including wirelessly. Any content stored on the district’s system and found to have violated any applicable policies shall be subject to immediate removal. Prohibited actions include, but are not limited to: Sending or displaying or printing obscene/pornographic messages or pictures Using obscene language Using harassing, insulting, or harmful language including, but not limited to, ethnic, racial, and sexual slurs Playing games or using "chat" rooms or email to socialize Tampering with or damaging computer systems, networks, hardware, software, or settings Tampering with or disabling restricted access safeguards Using another's password or trespassing in another's folders, work, or files Violating copyright laws Using the network for commercial purposes Printing to excess Unauthorized downloading of program or executable files The school reserves the right to restrict access to other areas that may not be specifically covered in the above list but may be deemed to be contrary to the best interests of the student and school. It is understood that anyone using this Internet network has agreed to abide by this Acceptable Use Policy. Violations may result in disciplinary and/or legal action.
